We left the villas fairly early the next day and drove to the glacier park at Franz Josef. We walked down onto the river bed and towards the terminal face of the glacier.


We didn't have enough time to get close to the face..and we weren't allowed to anyway. Just this week some people were buried when a huge amount of ice fell from the roof of the cave.

Drove on to Fox and out to the Panorama lookout for great views of Fox Glacier.
On to Haast where we had lunch.
Stopped at The Gates of Haast...amazing place...


to get some idea of the size of things..there is a guy on one of those rocks....
